Lab Goals and Outreach

Mission

Our lab’s mission is to address the chronic disease crisis in the US and the world through the development of new preventative treatments and early diagnostic tools. We are stewards of investment from the American people and the City of New York and recognize this comes with the expectation to improve the health of these communities. We are working constantly to make these new therapeutics and diagnostics available to everyone, and appreciate the trust put in us to do so.

Our lab’s other mission, equally important, is to train excellent scientists and engineers. The success and future of our health depends on trainees who respect the scientific process and the people for whom we do the work.

Integrity, Reproducibility, and Rigor

Recognizing that bad science is not science at all, we strive not only for honesty and objectivity, but also to make real and significant contributions to the the fields in which we work.

  • We value academic integrity. Beyond respecting the contributions of other members of our field, preserving the lineage of scientific ideas is also crucial for building upon them.
  • We value objectivity.
  • There is a reproducibility and rigor crisis in science. Fixing this starts with each person in each lab.
